Said in a jokey voice last night, “How dare you be naked when I invite my mother into the bedroom”, followed by a look of horror after realizing just how Freudian a statement that was.
Last night my FIL & MIL got into a fight with my darling DH in the middle. It got quite loud and my MIL finally escaped to her room. I was angry at my DH as he didn’t help to diffuse the situation, which he could have…but I guess the old habits of your childhood get in the way and it’s tough to be the adult in such situations. There was no way that I would ever step into the fray, even though I really wanted to.
My MIL does not like anyone to tell her that she is doing anything wrong. It gets under her skin and she reacts very poorly. My FIL loves to pick at her at times and she just doesn’t do herself justice when this happens.
So later on, after we went upstairs to go to bed, we heard my MIL crying in the kitchen. So Roy went to talk to her. I figured he’d be there for a while, I was tired, so I got ready for bed…and then in he walked with my MIL. We all talked for a bit to make her feel a bit better and then she went to bed.
That is when my DH uttered that lovely Freudian statement above…and it’s even better that it was directed at me, someone who teaches Psychology! But I did tell him that in the future, not to bring his mom into the room when I’m hiding naked under the duvet!!!
