We have had Barney for just over one week. It’s been an adventure to say the least.
I’ve never owned a dog who is so nervous. Usually I have to chill out my dogs or at least make sure they don’t jump up on people. Barney, on the other hand, is extremely shy. He backs away from people and if he’s on lead (like today), he might even freak out around them…pulling like mad to get away, getting under my feet & getting stepped on (sorry Barney). He pulls, he ignores us and he’s licking himself just a bit too much at times.
Barney is a great dog in other ways. He is easy to have around as he doesn’t beg, he doesn’t counter surf and nor does he chew on a thing. He’s gotten so lovey with us. He can sit and go ‘down’ if he’s paying attention. We can leave him alone with no worries. And he’s the cutest dog EVER with his soulful eyes and wavey dark hair.
So one week down and we’re happy. We have a trainer coming in next week to help us with the issues, and to let us know if we can move beyond this fear. I’ve ordered a few aromatherapy items which should also give him a bit of stress relief. So we’ll see. In about five days, we’ll make our decision as to whether we want to keep him. But I think…it’s looking pretty good. Roy might have a fit if we had to give him up!

Barney is a handsome boy!!!!! In a little time he should get over the shyness. One step at a time with getting him used to you two then on to more noises and more people.

Awww, poor thing. He’s got some awesome, loving owners though. In a few months he’ll probably be so different you’ll wonder what the heck happened to the shy dog he once was!
